This tricky challenge is asking internet users to identify the suitcase that holds a pile of gold – and it requires you to think outside of the box
CHRISTMAS is a time for fun and games, so reckon you can solve this festive puzzle in under 60 seconds?
The tricky challenge is asking internet users to identify the suitcase that holds a pile of gold – and it requires you to think outside of the box (or bag in this case).
Can you work out which case contains the gold?
Here’s the riddle, taken from mathematician Adam Spencer’s book The Number Games…
You are in the centre of a room with three suitcases. One is yellow, another is grey, and the last is white.
One of the cases is packed full of gold, and the other two are completely empty.
Each case has a note attached to it, giving a hint about what lies within.
At least one of the statements is true and at least one is false, so which case holds the gold?

Two of the cases (yellow and grey) claim the gold is NOT inside the grey case.
If they are both lying, then the gold is in the grey case and the hint on the white case is also false. However this can’t happen as at least one of the statements is true.
So, if yellow and grey are true, then the gold is not in the grey case.
One of the false statements has to be untrue, so that would imply that the white case’s note is the false one.
So the answer is that the gold lies in the yellow case.
Did you manage to correctly find the gold?
